Martin R. Baach, Partner

Trained as a commercial litigator, with early experience in arbitration, Martin Baach represents London market insurers and reinsurers, major corporations, and professionals in law and medicine, providing advice and counseling for their most critical and complex matters.  Clients turn to Mr. Baach when the matter calls for mature judgment and an effective and experienced advocate before courts and arbitration panels.   

Mr. Baach has represented the London Insurance Market for over twenty-five years, achieving successful results through negotiation and, where necessary, litigation of some of the Market’s most contentious and high-stakes disputes.  He also provides London Market Insurers with strategic counseling and advice to develop systemic solutions to complex and vexing problems such as the asbestos litigation crisis.  As part of his work on the asbestos issue, Mr. Baach assembled, organized, and directed a team of nationally recognized government affairs experts in successful state and federal legislative efforts.

With deep experience in ADR, Mr. Baach has participated in dozens of mediations and multi-party negotiations achieving successful resolutions to difficult disputes.  A skilled draftsman, his work product is used as a model for high stakes settlements.

Mr. Baach has developed and directed national litigation strategy for large corporations.  He is experienced at handling multi-jurisdictional product liability defense matters.

Professional and business ethics is another area of Mr. Baach’s expertise.  For three years Mr. Baach served as Chair of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals’ Board on Professional Responsibility.  He assists individuals and firms in resolving sensitive ethics and professional liability matters.

Chambers USA (2008) has recognized Mr. Baach as one of the top attorneys in Washington, D.C. for insurance matters.
